Grade II Listed Thatched Cottage Restoration

This traditional timber-framed thatched cottage required much of its sole plate to be replaced and the existing extension was in need of restoration.

Listed Building Consent is required for practically any structural work to a Listed Building including the replacement of sole plates and the restoration of historic timber frames.

Hibbs & Walsh is often associated with work to Listed Buildings and have completed many projects throughout Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk, including thatched cottages like this one.

We use a variety of traditional construction techniques and materials which are essential for the preservation of historical buildings. We feel strongly that the architect has a ‘responsibility to a building’ and we’ve gained considerable experience in working closely with the Listed Building Officer to achieve the desired – and permitted – results.
