Listed Barn Re-fit and Indoor Swimming Pool

Hibbs & Walsh was commissioned to obtain Listed Building Consent for the re-conversion of this beautiful barn. Alongside the barn update, we were asked to provide an indoor swimming pool within a new building that would complement the original barn.

Two of the external walls of the building were intended to rise up out of the pool, combining the pool sides with the building foundations. We chose a steel-reinforced sprayed concrete structure. The concrete was sprayed over a period of a week.

The Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) used in both the walls and roof of this pool building provide excellent levels of insulation, with the bonus of making it very quick to build – the main structure was erected in under two weeks.

With our practical commitment to sustainability, heating for both the pool and the building is provided by an air-source heat pump. The mezzanine floor provides a useful area for socialising.

The original barn update included a sunken bath and a bespoke glazed walnut ensuite screen, shown in this Interior Features post.
