Renovation and extension of a listed hotel and restaurant

The Cross Keys in Saffron Walden is a Grade II* listed building dating from the 14th century. Architects Hibbs & Walsh Associates worked on the renovation and extension of this hotel and restaurant, in close conjunction with Innventure Ltd and the pub company Charles Wells. Hibbs & Walsh Associates provided a historical assessment of the building, which retains an interesting crown post roof as well as parts of the mediaeval timber frame. The assessment was used to justify the necessary changes and the extension of the building, and validate the renovation techniques. Hibbs & Walsh Associates have an extensive library of specialist publications on the history of architecture and many years’ experience of working on listed buildings.
