Grade II listed cottage

Restoring a traditional thatched cottage and its extension

Architects Hibbs & Walsh Associates have worked on many Listed Buildings throughout Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk many of which have been timber framed thatched cottages. This cottage had to have much of its sole plate replaced and the existing extension restored. Listed Building Consent is required for practically any structural work to a Listed Building including the replacement of sole plates and the restoration of historic timber frames. Hibbs & Walsh Associates have worked with many traditional construction techniques and materials which are essential for the preservation of historical buildings. Locally Hibbs & Walsh is often associated with work to Listed Buildings and they feel strongly that the architect has a ‘responsibility to a building’ and is experienced in working closely with the Listed Building Officer to achieve the desired – and permitted – results.
