The partners in Hibbs and Walsh have been interested in sustainability for many years, from the early experiments with solar thermal to specifying air source and ground source heat pumps.

The practice also has obtained consents for photovoltaic panels, from small installations on Listed Buildings to large scale arrays. The combination of low oil prices and the government’s changes to policy has led to a loss of interest in sustainable energy, but the recent floods should act as a reminder that dramatic changes in climate (as well as oil prices!) are not going to go away.

If you are considering building a new house, or significantly remodelling an existing building, it is worth considering which energy source is most suitable for you. For example a combination of photovoltaic cells and a heat pump will give you almost free heating and hot water, irrespective of government subsidies.
